Participation Council
What is a participation council?
Every school in the Netherlands has an MR. The MR thinks and decides about school matters and thus contributes to the policy of education at school. At Stepping Stones, the MR consists of two parents (Maarten Flinkenflögel and Keiko Penney Chavers) and two teachers (Puck van Dijk and Suzanne van Ravenswaaij). They meet 5 or 6 times a year to discuss policy issues.
Why is the MR important?
Both parents and teachers help think about school policy. Our shared goal is to create an enriching learning environment at school in which all children feel safe.
The tasks of the MR:
The MR consults with the management on important school matters such as:
-
The quality of education (e.g. available funds for workload reduction and NPO funds)
-
The hiring policy (e.g. being represented at job interviews)
-
School safety and the care plan
-
The budget (including the voluntary parental contribution)
-
The school guide
